The committee voted 12-0 to recommend the $121.5 million municipal operations budget and 9-3 to approve the $96.9 million school budget, with Sullivan abstaining from both. Committee members debated whether declining enrollment and rising administrative costs represent efficient spending; supporters noted the schools met their 3 percent guideline and that comparative school committees across Massachusetts face worse situations.
The committee also approved $1 million from the Municipal Light Plant, $900,000 for snow removal, $750,000 for pond dredging, and $450,000 for playground improvements, while unanimously rejecting a proposal to limit the Residential Incentive Overlay district to single-family zones.
