Wellesley's Council on Aging board debated shrinking from 11 members to as few as seven. Chair Judy Gertler presented data showing peer-town Councils on Aging range from seven to eleven seats, arguing Wellesley's board is now oversized relative to comparable panels. Members split between seven and nine, with Barbara Searle backing seven for easier quorums and Corinne Monahan and Bernard Horan favoring nine; Gertler said any change needs Select Board approval and a Town Meeting warrant, with a board vote expected November 19.
Separately, the board unanimously accepted $3,539.75 in September gifts, including $1,596 from the Elmira Simons Fund for lunch scholarships, and heard that 298 lunches were served in September at an $8 resident price subsidized by the Friends of the Wellesley Council on Aging.
