DPW presents $14.2 million PFAS water treatment plan with rate hikes

WELLESLEY — Advisory Committee hears DPW's $14.2 million PFAS water treatment plan. Director Dave Cohen presented a 2.2 percent increase in the operating budget, with water rates rising approximately 20 percent and sewer rates about six percent to fund mandatory PFAS treatment required for state and federal compliance by 2027. The treatment includes $10 million for permanent treatment at Morse's Pond and $3.4 million for interim treatment at two other facilities.
The committee reviewed nine warrant articles including $4.5 million for Great Plain Avenue reconstruction, with approximately $1 million in PFAS litigation settlement funds already received to help offset costs.
