HR Board approves bylaw changes to streamline policy review process.

Human Resources Board · Meeting of January 8, 2026

WELLESLEY — The Wellesley Human Resources Board unanimously backed a proposed bylaw amendment that would remove routine HR policies from Town Meeting approval, citing delays that leave the town operating under outdated policies conflicting with current state and federal law. Town Counsel Tom Harrington presented options modeled on the Town of Concord framework that would exempt financially neutral policies while requiring Select Board engagement and public hearings on policies with financial impact such as vacation, sick leave, and benefits. The board also unanimously approved IT Director Brian DuPont's request to promote Conor Mahoney, serving as Acting Cybersecurity Administrator, with an 8 percent salary increase to approximately $104,178, and unanimously cleared four HR policies—Religious Accommodation, Whistleblower, Personnel Records, and Pregnant Workers Fairness Act—for implementation pending bylaw amendment effectiveness.
