WELLESLEY — Municipal Light Board unanimously approves three major initiatives spanning labor, billing, and renewable energy. The board backed a new three-year union contract through June 30, 2029, featuring 4% annual wage increases, enhanced vacation accrual, and expanded family illness leave, with Local 335 members voting unanimous approval. Directors Wood and Austin successfully pitched a flat $8.00 monthly early payment discount replacing a percentage-based program that had cost over $500,000 annually, estimated to save approximately $67,000 while encouraging paperless billing and AutoPay enrollment.
In a third unanimous vote, the board authorized up to $1 million in WeCare funds to bridge the solar financing gap at Honeywell and Hardy elementary schools, contingent on the town securing a $1 million state grant, with the MLP receiving ownership of renewable energy certificates and environmental attributes over a 20-year period.
