Wellesley Natural Resources Commission approves Land Conservation Plan. The commission voted unanimously (4-0) to adopt the final draft, which incorporates feedback from prior reviews and identifies approximately 2.5 acres of natural land converted annually between 2014 and 2024. The plan includes illustrative examples of conservation mechanisms including fee acquisitions, easements, agricultural preservations, conservation restrictions, and down-zoning.
Commissioner Bea Bezmalinovic proposed integrating the consultant's findings into the commission's land acquisition policy to preserve the work over time, and all commissioners supported this approach. Former Commissioner Michael D'Ortenzio suggested distributing the report broadly to town meeting members and other elected boards, and potentially requesting an appropriation of approximately $50,000 for property analysis should parcels become available.
