Natural Resources Commission approves removal of seven trees, preserves three

WELLESLEY — Natural Resources Commission votes unanimously to remove seven trees flagged by arborist and DPW as hazardous. Chair Steve Park, Vice Chair Melinda Arias-Voci, Secretary Joe Schott, and member Tom Hammond heard ten trees; three with resident speakers were placed on a watch list (22 Heckle Street Norway Maple, 37 Bristol Road Red Oak) or approved for removal with homeowner consent (180 Wellesley Avenue White Pine). The remaining seven — including invasive Norway Maples and severely compromised Sugar Maples and a Red Oak — were removed unanimously due to structural failure risk, decay, and safety hazards.
NRC Director Brandon Schmitt also presented two-building schematic and three-dimensional renderings for the Morses Pond Beach and Bathhouse project, emphasizing environmental collaboration and minimized footprint.
