Officials weigh Sprague scoreboard placement options
Wellesley school officials weighed where to place a $50,000 Sprague Field scoreboard after neighbors raised safety concerns.
Sprague Scoreboard Community Forum · Meeting of October 28, 2026
Wellesley school officials weighed where to place a $50,000 Sprague Field scoreboard after neighbors raised safety concerns. School Committee member Linda Chow hosted the forum with Athletic Director John Brown, Coach Novio and DPW Director David Cohen, explaining the board is fully funded by the Diamond Club booster club. A Francis Road neighbor who identified herself as a physician argued the sign belongs in center field, not left field, warning it could affect helicopter medevac access, saying "safety comes first." Brown countered that center field would sit in the batter's sightline, comparing it to Fenway Park's practice of blacking out center-field seats during day games.
No vote was taken; Chow said the committee's prior unanimous vote endorsed only the scoreboard concept, with Design Review Board, Select Board and Zoning Board of Appeals approvals still required before installation, targeted before the 2027 season.
