Overnight Paving Closes Linden Street as Schools, Library Gear Up for Fall

WELLESLEY — Public Works crews closed Linden Street and the Linden-Kingsbury Street intersection overnight Monday for repaving, the lone town-flagged disruption in an otherwise administrative week as Wellesley Public Schools reopens its parent portal and the Free Library rolls out the final stretch of its summer program guide.

TOWN HALL The Department of Public Works paved Linden Street and the Linden-Kingsbury Street intersection during the overnight hours of August 17, closing the roadway and rerouting traffic, according to a town News Flash reminder issued Monday afternoon. Drivers in the area should have expected temporary closures and detours into Tuesday morning.

SCHOOLS Wellesley Public Schools will open its PowerSchool Parent Portal from August 19 through September 9, giving families a three-week window to confirm emergency contact information, directory permissions and other back-to-school paperwork ahead of the first day of classes on September 2, per the district's 2026-27 Back to School Letter. Registration for the 2026-27 school year also remains open for new students in grades K-12; children who turn five on or before August 31 are eligible for kindergarten, and families can use the district's online tool to confirm their elementary school assignment.

COMMUNITY & ARTS At the Wellesley Free Library, renovation work continues at the Hills Branch, part of a building-improvement push the library is tracking as a "Project Progress Spotlight" on its website. The library's summer Program Guide runs through its final weeks with a string of adult offerings, including a "Painting in the Garden: Watercolor Sunset" session on the Main Library terrace Wednesday evening and a smart-device photography class in Jackie's Room the same night.
