Recreation Commission · Meeting of October 20, 2026

WELLESLEY — The Wellesley Recreation Commission opposed extending a Select Board tax-delinquency penalty to recreation services. Chairperson Paul Cramer told the commission he had floated the idea with Select Board contact Corey Testa before seeking feedback, and members worried about administrative burden and the optics of blocking a child from signing up over a parent's unpaid taxes. Director Matthew Chin said the department would flag delinquent accounts and require phone calls to register, but commissioners argued "it's a stay in your lane kind of thing" since recreation isn't responsible for tax collection.

Cramer summarized the consensus: "The Recreation Commission believes that the best way to address delinquent taxes is through the town's Treasurer's Office." Separately, Chin reported the Morse's Pond project is at 50 percent design, with the playground moving to the building's south side, and presented flat FY28 expense guidelines alongside a 2.8 percent personnel increase.
