School Committee approves window-unit air conditioning and solar projects for schools.

School Committee · Meeting of May 5, 2026

WELLESLEY — School Committee backs air conditioning and solar projects as top priorities. Superintendent David Lussier and Director of Facilities Management Joe McDonough presented a feasibility study for window-unit air-conditioning units at four schools, which the committee unanimously approved to move to the Permanent Building Committee and fall 2026 Special Town Meeting. The committee also unanimously approved planning for fall solar installation at Hardy and Hunnewell Elementary Schools, with panels offsetting up to 70 percent of Hunnewell's electric needs, pending a May 7 logistics meeting at Hardy.

The committee accepted adjusted grants totaling $54,959 in new METCO Special Education Supplemental funding and unanimously approved the revised 2026-2027 academic calendar, moving graduation from June 4 to June 11 and setting June 22, 2026 as the last day of school.
