School Committee assigns leadership roles and reviews equity policy.

School Committee · Meeting of March 10, 2026

WELLESLEY — School Committee elects new leadership and clarifies roles after election. The board voted 4-1 to appoint Linda Chow as Vice Chair, with newly elected Robert Sullivan dissenting on the grounds that fresh members should gain experience before leading; Costas Panagopoulos and Sullivan were unanimously assigned to the Policy Subcommittee, Mobility Liaison role, and liaisons to the Student Nutrition Advisory Committee and AI Steering Committee, respectively. The committee deferred Policy JBB, a new educational equity framework, citing unresolved questions about terminology shifts (family income to housing status), alignment between policy language and actual district data-tracking practices, and clarification on phrases including "rigor in the right moment." K-12 METCO Director Stephanie Holland presented a proposed METCO Counselor position drawing over eight applicants, half with counseling or social work degrees, which student representative Alex Budson endorsed as necessary support for METCO students' distinct social and academic needs.
