Select Board approves $400,000 winter supplemental, Town-Wide Financial Plan, and capital planning committee.

Select Board · Meeting of February 24, 2026

Wellesley Select Board authorizes $400,000 winter supplemental and approves capital planning blueprint. The Board voted 5-0 to approve the winter appropriation from Free Cash following fourteen salting events and four major storms in FY26. In a 3-2 vote, the Board established the Town-Wide Capital Planning Committee to evaluate and prioritize major capital projects over the next decade, with Chair Marjorie Freiman, Vice Chair Tom Ulfelder, and Secretary Colette Aufranc voting yes; Members Kenneth Largess and Beth Sullivan Woods opposed, citing concerns about committee composition and potential future bylaw amendments.

The Board unanimously approved the Town-Wide Financial Plan projecting $226 million in FY27 spending with reserves at 14.94 percent of operating revenue. Aufranc defended the TWCPC as an advisory body aligned with best practices and peer-town standards, while Largess argued all land-owning boards should have equal voting seats and questioned whether future bylaw changes would make the committee's prioritization enforceable.
