Select Board approves expanded hours for Shake Shack; adopts Fire Station Master Plan

Select Board · Meeting of June 2, 2026

Wellesley Select Board votes unanimously on alcohol licenses and fire infrastructure. The Board approved extended evening hours for Shake Shack's Common Victualler and liquor licenses to align with neighboring restaurants, with alcohol service extended to midnight (5-0 for both votes). In its first public presentation, a comprehensive Fire Station Master Plan recommended a new approximately 26,000-square-foot headquarters on Weston Road, paired with Station 2 renovation to substation status and Station 1 decommissioning.

Fire Chief Steve Mortarelli cited a dozen firefighter cancer cases in recent years, attributing them partly to inadequate decontamination and segregation in facilities that fail to meet NFPA standards. The Board appointed Ann Raider, Renee Spencer, and Corinne Monahan to the Council on Aging; Brett Estwanik to the Municipal Light Board; and Thomas Goemaat to the Capital Planning Committee, all unanimously approved through June 30, 2029.
