Select Board · Meeting of May 12, 2026

Wellesley Select Board unanimously approves objection to 40 Oakland Street redevelopment plan. The Board voted 5-0 on a motion by Secretary Aufranc to send a letter to state housing officials objecting to the density proposal, with authorization for Chair Freiman to finalize it with Town Counsel Eric Reustle and Special Counsel. The Board cited concern that state calculations put density at four units per acre across the entire 45-acre parcel despite the development area being primarily a five-acre parking lot.

Members emphasized that any viable redevelopment plan would require substantial traffic improvements at Route 9 and Oakland Street and infrastructure improvements to address MassBay Community College access.
