WELLESLEY — Select Board unanimously approves letter to state on Oakland Street surplus land. Chair Marjorie Freiman led the five-member board in voting 5-0 to send the May 13 correspondence to the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) and Housing and Livable Communities Secretary Juana B. Matias, with authority vested in the Chair to finalize the draft incorporating board direction.
Town Counsel Eric Reustle advised that the letter would formally articulate the Town's concerns regarding the proposed redevelopment, explicitly reserve all legal rights and remedies available to the Town, and identify issues and priorities for the forthcoming Request for Proposals process. The Board emphasized concerns regarding density calculations across the entire 45-acre parcel, traffic and circulation impacts at Route 9 and Oakland Street, and the need for comprehensive roadway improvements and state involvement in implementation.
