WELLESLEY — Select Board OKs Special Town Meeting warrant on Commonwealth's 40 Oakland Street housing proposal. Chair Marjorie Freiman and Town Counsel Thomas Harrington advanced a "bookend" advisory question giving Town Meeting Members a choice between accepting 180 units of housing with 37-38 acres of conservation land or pursuing litigation to block development, with the warrant set to open April 21 and close April 24. The board voted 3-2 to approve the language; Kenneth Largess and Beth Sullivan Woods opposed, citing concerns over lost negotiating leverage and false binary framing.
The Special Town Meeting is scheduled for May 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Wellesley High School, with a May 13 deadline for the town to respond to the state.
