Wellesley Select Board approves three licenses and calls May vote on Oakland Street housing. The board voted unanimously April 14 to issue a one-day liquor license for the Wellesley Historical Society's June 17 event, an annual mobile food vendor license for Oath Pizza, and an entertainment license amendment for Lockheart restaurant. Chair Marjorie Freiman announced a non-binding Special Town Meeting in May on a state proposal to develop 180 units on the 40 Oakland Street parcel while conserving the surrounding forest.
Citizens presented sharply divided views: supporters backed housing with forest preservation; opponents cited over 3,400 petition signatures and concerns about density, road capacity, and environmental impacts on wetlands and water supply. The board also appointed Kenneth Largess and Marjorie Freiman to the General Bylaw Review Committee and designated Colette Aufranc as chair of the new Town-Wide Capital Planning Committee with Tom Ulfelder as member.
