Wellesley Charrette Gathers Input on North 40's Future
N40 Charrette · Meeting of October 1, 2026
Wellesley charrette draws 200-plus residents to map the North 40's future amid fire station tension. Select Board Chair Marjorie Fryman opened the session by rejecting a resident email claim that the board had "gone this far along without input from us the taxpayer," saying "nothing about this statement is correct" and that no fire station site has been chosen among three finalists, two within the North 40 and one at 515 Washington Street. Executive Director Megan Jopp then reviewed the town's $35 million, 2015 acquisition of the 46-acre parcel from Wellesley College, noting the purchase agreement requires at least 50 percent permanent open space and that 13.12 acres are slated for a conservation restriction.
"It was very clear we were there to provide choices for the community," Jopp said. Residents spent the rest of the evening building scaled paper maps at their tables, weighing uses from housing and playing fields to arts space and a fire station, with no formal votes taken.
