Wellesley Closes Hunnewell Lot, Path For Team Room Installation

WELLESLEY — Wellesley closed the Smith Street parking lot and the Brook Path behind Hunnewell Track & Field this week, clearing the way for new team rooms to arrive at the athletic complex on Thursday, Aug. 27.

TOWN HALL

The town's Department of Public Works shut down the Smith Street lot and the adjoining stretch of Brook Path on Wednesday, Aug. 26, to allow for a safe installation of the new team rooms, according to a News Flash posted on the town website. Both the lot and path are expected to reopen Aug. 30, once the delivery and setup are complete. Residents with questions were directed to contact DPW by email or at 781-235-7600.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NEWS

"Wellesley School Committee weighs accelerated timeline for AC," The Swellesley Report reports. The site's coverage suggests the committee may be exploring a faster path to installing air conditioning in the four schools without centralized cooling, a continuing story the district's own website has also tracked this summer (read it at https://theswellesleyreport.com/2026/08/wellesley-school-committee-weighs-accelerated-timeline-for-ac/).

Wellesley Patch's morning briefing also flagged the same question in a post headlined "🌱 Patch AM: Will Wellesley classrooms get air conditioning sooner than planned?" per Wellesley Patch (read it at https://patch.com/massachusetts/wellesley).

"Register now for Wellesley Recreation Fall 2026 programs," according to The Swellesley Report. The site pointed residents to open registration for the town's fall recreation offerings at the Warren Building (read it at https://theswellesleyreport.com/2026/08/register-now-for-wellesley-recreation-fall-2026-programs/).

The library is closed all day Sunday, Aug. 30.
