Wellesley Select Board Approves $4,725 for Council on Aging Summer Interns

WELLESLEY — July 1, 2026 — Wellesley Select Board approves $4,725 for Council on Aging summer interns, then enters executive session with five unions. The board voted unanimously at its July 1 remote meeting to draw on the Campana Fund to hire eight interns for nine weeks at $15 per hour, beginning the week of July 7, to supplement reduced summer volunteer capacity at the COA. Chair Marjorie Freiman said the expenditure falls within the Campana Fund's intended scope of programs and enhancements for the Council on Aging; Secretary Colette Aufranc noted the interns would assist with patron transportation, facility activities, and volunteer coordination, and that the program also serves an "intergenerational" programming function. The board also accepted the minutes of the Townwide Capital Planning Committee Interview Subcommittee and dissolved that body before moving into closed session under MGL c. 30A §21(a)(3) to conduct negotiations strategy with AFSCME Council 93 Local 49 (Custodians), AFSCME Council 93 Local 335 Production and Supervisors units (DPW), the Wellesley Free Library Staff Association and Supervisors Association, and the Wellesley Police Patrolmen's Association.
