Historical Commission · Meeting of October 14, 2026
Wellesley's Historical Commission approved one teardown waiver and continued three others amid size concerns. The commission voted 5-1 Wednesday to approve a design waiver for a new home at 34 Sheridan Road, with member Emily Maitin dissenting after calling the house "enormous for the neighborhood context." Three other projects, at 22 Standish Road, 62 Pine Plain Road and 22 Cypress Road, were each continued 6-0 to November 17 after abutters and commissioners raised concerns about scale; Carver Road resident Nancy Hill said a proposed Standish Road house was "quite excessive" and asked the commission to send it "back to the drawing board." Proposed square footage ranged from 4,042 to roughly 5,195 square feet across the projects, against zoning thresholds between 3,600 and 5,900 square feet. Member Alexander Gavis suggested renovating rather than demolishing the existing Standish Road Cape, calling it likely a "Royal Barry Wills" design.
