Wellesley Climate Action Committee unanimously adopts FY27 work plan after members balked at retreat pushback on its mission.
Climate Action Committee · Meeting of August 7, 2026
Wellesley Climate Action Committee unanimously adopts FY27 work plan after members balked at retreat pushback on its mission. Chair Lise Olney and Vice Chair Mary Gard rejected suggestions from a Select Board retreat that the committee soften its greenhouse-gas focus, with Olney calling the discussion "shocking" given "the world is burning up" and member Kenneth Largess calling it "rather alarming." The 7-0 vote adds a provision to explore reaffirming town support for climate goals, possibly via a spring town meeting resolution. Sustainability Director Marybeth Martello also reported the Senate's energy bill would preserve roughly $1 billion in Mass Save funding the House had proposed cutting and would phase out the Gas System Enhancement Program.
HomeWorks Energy canvassing generated close to 100 new home energy assessments in June and July.
