Climate Action Committee · Meeting of October 2, 2026

Wellesley's Climate Action Committee pushed back on the town's school air-conditioning plan while clearing routine business. Member Michael McManus said he remained unconvinced that heat-pump unit ventilators "wouldn't have worked" at Bates and Fisk, questioning the window-unit approach the School Committee chose, even while noting Wellesley's electricity supply is "largely non-emitting." Member Niki Ofenloch explained two town meeting motions are coming: one funding all four schools for 2028 construction, another accelerating Bates and Fisk to 2027 "fully out of free cash." Chair Lise Olney said the committee's silence on the project has been mistaken for approval: "I don't even know how everybody feels in the room." The committee approved its September 4 minutes 6-0 and reviewed a preliminary fiscal 2028 budget carrying a $75,000 climate plan update line item for fiscal 2029.
