NRC splits on White Pond legal funding ask
Natural Resources Commission · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Wellesley's Natural Resources Commission punted on a White Pond funding request, leaving town meeting to decide. Commissioners heard from Wellesley Conservation Land Trust president Michael Tobin, who said legal work to untangle the pond's lapsed 1955 trust would cost "$25,000 to $50,000," while the board's own assessment pegged eventual acquisition and maintenance costs at $559,000 to $1.04 million. Secretary Joe Schott compared it to buying a house after a bad inspection: "Do you still want this house?" The board reached no consensus on using conservation dollars for the legal work but voted 4-0 to appoint Iris Lin to the Wetlands Protection Committee and unanimously backed a redesigned Perrin Park playground.
The Advisory Committee takes up the White Pond warrant article September 23, ahead of a November 9 special town meeting vote.
