Select Board approves DPW feasibility study, budget plan using Free Cash for health insurance

Wellesley Select Board endorses $858,000 DPW feasibility study and budget plan using Free Cash. The Board unanimously approved a two-part strategy to close a $2.1 million FY27 deficit: reduce cash capital by $1 million through project deferrals and apply $1.1 million in Free Cash to offset a 12.5 percent health insurance increase, avoiding service cuts. The DPW Master Plan, completed by Weston and Sampson, identified approximately 123,668 square feet needed for DPW operations and explored incorporating Land Use and Facilities Management departments into a unified 137,168-square-foot municipal campus on the Municipal Way site.
The 78-year-old Park and Highway building and Cold Storage shed require replacement. The Board voted unanimously to accept two anonymous gifts totaling $60,000 to the police department and approved a $17,000 supplemental appropriation for copier replacement.
