WELLESLEY — The Wellesley Zoning Board of Appeals approved a teardown at 37 Martin Road despite a petition opposing it signed by more than 30 residents from over 20 households. Chairman J. Randolph Becker, Vice Chairman Robert W. Levy and member David G. Sheffield voted 3-0 to find the new 3,513-square-foot home "not substantially more detrimental" than the existing nonconforming structure. Abutter Fred Cuthin told the board to picture "this 34-foot front to back, two-story wall that's going to be looming over our property." Levy said the organized opposition gave him pause, noting "my ears perk up when we get that groundswell," but ultimately joined the unanimous vote.
The board also approved special permits at 10 Brewster Road, 55 Kenilworth Road and 3 Pickerel Road, and a sign permit for Skincare Physicians at 96-120 Worcester Street, while continuing a golf-simulator pavilion addition at 45 Cliff Road to September 10 for more detail on lighting and tree protection.
