Design board approves four Wellesley projects

Design Review Board · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Wellesley Design Review Board approves four projects, sends one estate's landscaping back for more detail. The board voted 4-0 four times Wednesday, clearing a corner mural for Truly's of Wellesley, a facade and sign package for Mona Dermatology at 71 Central Street, and large house reviews at 15 Lathrop Road and 87 Hundreds Road. Chair Juann Khoory called the all-stucco exterior of the roughly 10,000-square-foot 87 Hundreds Road estate "flat," comparing it at one point to "a mini Blenheim Palace," and pushed architect Mike McKay to study a contrasting stone accent.

At 15 Lathrop Road, the board approved the architecture but continued the landscape review, asking contractor Doug DeWolf of New View Inc. for a written narrative on protecting tree roots near a planned retaining wall. Mona Dermatology's managing director, Hadeer El Samaloty, defended a signage layout the board called "redundant" before members negotiated it down to 12-inch lettering bottom-justified beneath the logo.
