Wellesley Design Review Board Approves Heroes Fitness Sign and Washington Street Canopies

Wellesley Design Review Board unanimously approves sign and canopy upgrades at two commercial addresses. The board voted 4-0 on each of two applications at its July 29 meeting: a 14.8-square-foot black acrylic sign for Heroes Fitness at 10 Prescott Street, approved with a condition requiring the sign to be lowered to align with an adjacent sign on the building, and new canopy systems and facade panel replacements at 36 and 40 Washington Street for Boylston Property, presented by architects Steve Decatur and Steve Baker of Baker Design Group. Vice Chair Iris Lin flagged that future signage atop the Washington Street canopies must be resolved before installation, noting "it might be a problem coming our way," and the applicant confirmed address-number sign drawings would return for a future board meeting.

In a planning update, staff liaison Lana announced she is leaving the town for a preservation planning role in Brookline, and identified Rob Wachilla, previously planning director in East Longmeadow, as the town's new Planning Director.
