Panel presses for cheaper Morses Pond materials
The Permanent Building Committee pushed back on premium material choices for the Morses Pond beach house redesign.
Permanent Building Committee · Meeting of October 8, 2026
WELLESLEY — The Permanent Building Committee pushed back on premium material choices for the Morses Pond beach house redesign. Engineer Amanda of Weston and Sampson presented a 50 percent design showing granite curbing, a granite seat wall, an ornamental fence and a copper rinse station; member Thomas Goemaat said "in every case you're choosing the most expensive option available." The committee settled on standard chain-link fencing over ornamental fencing, agreed to drop a log crawl tunnel and playground shade sails, and asked the estimator to price wood versus stamped-concrete decking before final selections. On the building side, members debated wood restroom partitions, with Matt King citing vandalism risk and Thomas Goemaat countering that wood suits the non-climate-controlled space better than sheetrock.
The committee also approved September 24 minutes 3-0 with two abstentions and three invoices tied to the DPW's RDF Administration Building, 5-0, as Goemaat warned that project "there is no way you're going to finish by the first of the year the way this thing is going."
