Wellesley Board of Health presses schools on air conditioning fix as citizen petition heads to town meeting. Chair Marcia Testa Simonson, Vice Chair Linda Oliver Grape and member Susie Eklund unanimously approved July 30 minutes and heard that a citizen petition seeking expedited air conditioning for four schools without central cooling will go before the November Special Town Meeting. The health director reported rising rat activity, particularly in Lower Falls, tied partly to trash-hauling practices, warning rodents carry "leptospirosis and hantavirus, rat bite fever, salmonella." Staff said Wellesley's opioid settlement award is closer to $2 million than an earlier $200,000 estimate, with only three grant applications received so far.
The town also confirmed it has no townwide prescription drug drop box, relying on twice-yearly Drug Take Back Days.
